February 17 - March 14, 2009 Squaw Creek NWR Geese and Eagles
|
Below are several pages with images created from 11 trips to Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in northwest Missouri. Somewhere around 3800 pictures were taken, so a good bit is left out of this. I sure didn't intend on making 11 trips in 26 days. It was pretty amazing there and well gas is cheap right now, so I figured what the hell most of those very early mornings. A lot was seen that wouldn't have been if I'd not gone so many different days. For instance the firenado thing happened on like trip 9 or something. The only reason I was back that day was because I lost my checkbook the day before, and it sure as hell wasn't at home. Bald eagles have a way of putting the whole "nature" thing in perspective, as they slaughter the other birds there. Got more than I bargained for one morning with all that. I figured it's going to happen if I'm there or not, and I soon found myself wanting pictures of something I wouldn't even watch on TV if it was on, let alone in person. More on that in the eagle action pages, but be warned, it's not going to be easy for everyone browse. It is how things are though, and I was there, so the story is now here. Again, if you don't like that part of nature, don't click on that section. That stuff is not hard to watch when it's not happening very close to you. It's a whole lot different once you can hear it and see it well. You just can't help but feel sorry for the ducks and geese at that point, regardless of if it is "nature". Anyway, the other sections below are viewer safe I think. Some of the ones in the "Just Eagles" part, they have some food in their mouth, but those aren't bad. I didn't think it would be wise to try and do this by day as normal, but instead am doing it by type of thing, with different days in each section. |
