June 18, 2008 Badlands, South Dakota - Sunrise

Back to the park, near Pinnacles Overlook again...a few minutes before 5 a.m.! Thankfully the fog was still around. I could not decide where to shoot this, but knew I had to have a view of the valley/flats, looking towards the sun.

The whole scene was beautiful, with the green floor, the blue coloring to the twilight fog, and the pink-red on the moisture/clouds in the sky from the rising sun.

The red reflecting off the small pond only added to the scene.

I can't say I've ever seen purple coloring in the sky quite like this on a sunrise.

Tossed the wide angle on to get these. Sun now cresting the horizon.

Telephoto back on. I was a lens changing machine right now. I really need a second camera body so I don't have to do that. Then again carying around two sounds like a headache. Purple coloring now going bye bye.

For as cool as the sunrise was, it would be nothing compared to what was just about to happen...an amazing storm of fog/clouds! What a shame it would have been had I just slept instead.
