These are all by the Grand Prismatic spring area. It was quite cold out, mid teens.

Yep, I should have arrived now, after the storm.

Now at the basin right by Old Faithful.

This was the first time I felt like photo ops were all over the place. Of course sunrise has a way of doing that. Sucks as it doesn't last long enough.

Not long after the sun comes up, out come the clouds to block it. Home I go. At least until the buffalo road block. There were around 100 of these guys right here crossing the road. Hell for some you really can't call it crossing. They get on there and won't budge.

Not budging. I drove around him on the right and he winked. Ok so he didn't wink. That guy in the truck was funny. He says, "He's going to move when he's damn well ready to move, and not a second sooner."

I didn't take a lot(any?) pictures the whole way out of the park once I started. The headache was bad bad and I just wanted to get down low again, and soon. So I flew. I wouldn't have wanted to ride with myself most of the way back. The snow and curvy roads didn't phase me at all by now. The trip out by Yellowstone Lake was neat. Clouds didn't help it much though. What was amazing was how long you come down to get to Cody. You never feel like you went up for that long. That whole 50 miles felt like it was down. That route in and out of the park is supposed to be the best and I can see why. This above was near Cody down at the bottom of the trip. It was nice to be on dry pavement again.
This is looking back up the moutnains towards the park. If you were east of the mountains you were in clear blue skies. West of them...clouds. Pretty cool how those mountain clouds form, but damn it would get old being under them.
I was in blue skies until I neared the Big Horns. You could see they were creating these clouds shown above. All along the peaks(past those low hills) you could see the cloud/clear line. Once I neared the pass east of Ten Sleep I hit the clear blue skies again. I was then in clear blue skies until I neared the Black Hills, where again, clouds were forming. The drive the rest of the way home was tough. I was in Rapid City at 7:30 as it was getting dark, having been in the car most of the time since 6:00 a.m. I somehow make the whole drive back, getting home around 2:00 a.m. I was having a tough time staying awake around Wall SD at 8. It took some effort to not get a room and to just keep driving. Ok, I'm tired of typing and glad this is all done with. I wish I knew what I know now, before I left. I wish a lot of things were different about this one. |
